Māori Legal Services

John Kahukiwa, Managing Partner

John Kahukiwa leads Corban Revell’s cross functional Māori legal services team.  Together with Peri Hoskins, Julia Harper-Hinton, Maureen Malcolm and Hine-Joy Weiland, John and the team provide advice and advocacy to individuals, hapu, iwi, whanau, large Māori based organisations and Māori businesses.

Their services cross a wide range of commercial and civil law issues and include litigation in the High Court, Māori Land Court, Māori Appellate Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

The complexity and diversity of the legal issues and challenges facing Māori organisations, businesses, iwi, hapu and individuals requires a legal team that is versatile, agile and experienced across multiple areas of the law.  We offer clients a depth of experience in commercial, law, litigation, trust and property law as well as expertise in specialist areas of Māori governance, public law and Tiriti O Waitangi matters.  Specific areas of expertise include:

  • Treaty claims and grievances.
  • Management structures in relation to land utilisation and development, e.g.  trusts, incorporated societies, charitable trusts, company structures, partnerships and limited partnership trusts.
  • Māori land rating issues
  • Te Ture Whenua Māori Act trusts
